I was looking for a serious online finance course for some time. Like you, I could not find anything that is free yet serious enough to offer me a certificate. The reason I found this was when I trying out my hands at contracts for difference (CFD). My broker from Oanda told me to take this course, pass it and get the certificate before I am allowed to trade the CFDs.
My initial inquiry to her included questions about the course's cost and its recognition by financial institutions in Singapore. She affirmed that the courses are indeed free and hold recognition, as their content is meticulously designed and endorsed by the Association of Banks in Singapore and the Securities Association of Singapore.
I tried out at some of the modules and guess what, they are really good. The courses has many slides with animation and quizzes. At the end of each module, I had to take a 15 MCQ quiz (may have changed now) and clear at least 13 of them. The most exciting bit was receiving the certificate which I needed to upload on the Oanda website.
Five modules of the SIPs are offered on the e-learning portal as follows:
1. Contracts For Difference;
2. Foreign Exchange Margin Trading;
3. Structured Deposits and Dual Currency Investments;
4. Structured Products;
5. Unit Trusts and Investment-linked Insurance Policies
I personally recommend you to explore the module on "Unit Trusts and Invest-Linked Insurance Policies", as these financial products are widely encountered and generally carry a low to moderate risk profile, making them suitable choices for your investment portfolio. This is my favorite module to attempt.
Then try the modules on Structured products and Structured deposits which come with higher risk and higher rewards.
The certificate issued with the completion of each course is valid for one year and you have to take it again so you can continue with your investment journey (only if your financial institution requires it). Nevertheless, the information given in the courses will level up your financial intelligence.
